Privacy Policy

Maintaining the privacy of your membership and contact information.

The HBS LGBT Alumni Association is a diverse group of people.  Some of us are gay; some of us are straight.  Some of us are transgender; some of us are not.  Some of us are very private about our identities; some of us are very open about them.

Membership and Contact Information

The leadership of the LGBTAA works hard to protect individuals' privacy, while also providing opportunities for networking and interaction.  All email communication is sent to individual members or via BCC, so no member's contact information is exposed to other members.

In the future we may offer a searchable online member directory.  Visibility in this directory will be on an opt-in basis--in other words, you will not appear unless you personally enable this feature.  Access to this directory will be available to LGBTAA members only.

The membership list and associated contact information is only used to communicate news and events related to the mission of the LGBTAA and approved by its co-presidents.  The co-presidents and the newletter editor are the only members with access to the membership list, and these people have committed to keep the list in utmost confidence.

Database Access

Our membership list is stored in a system provided by the HBS Alumni Clubs office.  The LGBTAA leadership works closely with the staff of the Alumni Clubs office.  Our leadership frequently commuincates with their team regarding the special privacy concerns of many of our members.  While the Alumni Clubs staff can access our membership list, they have committed not to do so.  If you would like to opt out of this system in favor of a manual list maintained by the co-presidents, please email Evan Horowitz, Co-President.

In order to maintain the most up-to-date contact information, our membership database is linked to the HBS Alumni database (applies to alumni only).  If you update your contact information in either place, the update will be shared automatcially with the other system.  If you make an update on our website, it will be tagged with hbslgbt.org as the place of last update.  This tag is used for database integrity and for no other purpose.  If you want to avoid this tag in your record, simply make all updates directly with the HBS Alumni office.

Thank you for your trust!
